Book Announcement!

A decade+ to research, a year to write

On January 30th, 2023, I got an unexpected email: “Budget Travel For Dummies – opportunity.” It was from Jennifer Yee, a Senior Editor with John Wiley & Sons. Today, almost exactly a year later, I hold in my hands the book with that exact title with my name on it. This has been one of the busiest years of my life, work-wise, and I wouldn’t change a thing. The bulk of the writing was done between March and September, with editing, revisions, and additions done after. Lots more work was done “behind the scenes” by a full team of editors including Chrissy Guthrie, Kristie Pyles, Jennifer Connolly, and Ria Misra. Also, a huge thanks to Jennifer Yee for thinking of me in the first place!

None of this would have happened if I hadn’t made the ridiculous decision to start my extended travels in 2014. I wrote about that already, a lot, so no need to repeat myself. I understand it’s difficult, if not impossible, for everyone to do what I did. Not everyone has the flexibility of time and work to spend months on the road. So I’m not sure what advice I can offer on that front other than when you see an opportunity, it’s worth leaning into it even if it’s scary. Just traveling more and being able to afford it, though, I wrote a whole book about that!

So if you’re interested, you can get Budget Travel For Dummies on Amazon, at B&N, and your local bookstore.
